Bohoc Training Institute

The Bohoc Training Institute, a Junior and Senior High School, is the focal point of HAFF's educational program, with about 250 students enrolled in grades 7 through 13. The staff of Haitian teachers is led by Phanes Charles, HAFF's Haitian headmaster. HAFF places special emphasis on teaching critical thinking and problem solving skills in contrast to relying on rote memory, which is common in Haiti. The school is especially known for its English teaching and the number of native English speakers who assist in teaching.

The Bohoc Training Institute has been educating junior high and high school students in the Bohoc community and surrounding area for almost 30 years. In this time the school has seen generations of kids and their parents complete their High School education. "It's exciting to see," says HAFF Staff Missionary Connie Curilla, "I have, and continue to see, the children of my previous students in my classes. It's encouraging to know that quality education is being passed from one generation to another making a long-term impact in the overall community."

The HAFF school is located on a 40-acres campus containing 7 school buildings, a school kitchen providing a meal for each student every school day, a library/resource room, administration building, mechanic/wood working shops, medical/dental clinic, missionary housing, and gardens for agricultural research and food production for the school.

If you are interested in teaching at HAFF, please contact us. Even before developing enough Creole language skills to teach many subjects, native English speakers can teach English with little difficulty.
