The Heartland of Haiti is Under Attack

On March 31, the gangs moved further north toward the central plateau and began fighting for Mirebalais. Since then, the hospital in the region has been shut down and taken over as a gang headquarters. More than 51,400 Haitians have been internally displaced over the central plateau. They have lost their homes, belongings, hospital and clinics, schools, livelihoods, and loved ones, fleeing sometimes with just the family they still have left.

HAFF remains in an area out of the reach of the gangs so far, and we pray (and hope you do as well) that it remains such. We know that God is the great Protector, and we trust His will.

So where does HAFF fit into the unrest that has seized Haiti? Well, right now, it involves many of the displaced people. Many family members have moved in with our HAFF Haitian employees as they have no where else to go. The school has taken on 100 new students who have streamed in from Mirebalais and must find a way to finish the last term of school or risk of losing the entire year of education and having to repeat it which means a huge economic setback.

Food is scarce in the homes of many of our students and employees. Water is hard to come by for some. Fear and a tense readiness are in the air.

In the midst of all of this is hope. We know that God is the provider, protector, and healer. We know that He will give everything needed to accomplish His will. So life may be hard, it may be dangerous, and it may be scary, but our Haitian brothers and sisters in Christ depend on God in ways that many people in the US have never known. God is at work!

Please pray for HAFF – for safety, for provision, and for fruit. Pray for the country of Haiti – for safety, for peace, for change. Pray for the people to whom we minister – for salvation, for hope, and for security.

Pray for Haiti’s heartland, and most importantly, pray for Haiti’s heart.
